BE Wiper Switch Knob

Any trick to getting the knob loose? I can see what looks like a pin on one side but I suspect it is more of a dimple on a spring wedge (I am sure there is a more correct "technical" term). I have a hacksaw nearby but both the switch and knob can be restored if I can get them separated.

Runs to my mind that the pin is pushed in to remove the knob. In fact the pin is on a spring thing on the metal peice that goes into the knob. Push it in and remove knob by pulling straight out.

Jack is precisely correct. It needs to be depressed just enough to clear the inside diameter of the knob and you are clear.

You know, that answer was hard to come by without going out to the car.

Supose I am getting older every day, lol.

Only the starter and choke knobs are not replaceable as seperate items as they are afixed to the cable.

Thanks, thats what I thought it was. Naturally it is "stuck" but will keep at it with something to break the rust and some pressure.

I cut off a 1/4" long piece of coat-hanger wire, cover the back side of the knob with electrical tape (for protection) and GENTLY use Vice-Grips to squeeze the pin in to release it. Then pull the knob off.

Unfortunately mine was so rusted that I had to use pliers to crush the knob so I could still remove and repair the switch. I think Ashley Hinton sells these for about 4 or 5 dollars on Ebay occasionally, so it wasn't a total loss. I bead blasted the pin and now it works great. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did. Let us know how it goes.

A little penetrating oil and a handy small star screwdriver to push on the pin with a little pressure did the trick. Knob is off with no damage. A little more penetrating oil on the button and on the plunger, some work with the whire wheel to clean it up and switch works like new.
