For the first time in over 15 years, she is licensed and on the road. Got to drive family and friends, about 20 miles so far.

hesitates a little as I drive and seems to work better with a little choke. I can adjust that later.

no smoke but how long for rings to seat?

I am ridiculously happy!!!

was driving best friend's daughter (who is also my daughter's best friend) and she says, "we need some old music for the car." Turned on the radio to hear Harper's Bazaar 59th Street Bridge Song, Feelin' Groovy" - perfect.

Life I love you, all is groovy

Your rings are now seated, 20 miles will do the job.

Several laps at speed on the track does the same thing.

That is the perfect song for a Spridget:

"Slow down! You move too fast."

Congrats JP!

No kidding - any thoughts anyone about why it might be hesitating? seems to appen mid range as I accelerate - though not dramatically - ie it doesn't lurch but you can definitely feel it

WooHoo JP - I'm so very stoked for you!!

Can't wait till I'm driving my MK2 Sprite, but I have to have a little quality time with her first! Can't do that down here in So. Cal...
(But we are going to see the mouse today!!)

WTG JP - now just drive nice & easy for a while and get her properly broke in.
I'll bet the "smiles per mile" are the highest ever, if there was a gauge for that the needle would be pegged!

Kudos!
I too love old music in these cars. Mine has a cassette player and one of the first things I did was buy some Beatles, Stones
and Pink Floyd tapes on e-bay.
Again, congrats on job well done!

I don't remember if you have SU or Weber on there?
This is the last hurdle for me too. I can cruise fine, accelerate fine but on initial "tip in" (is that the right term?) it falls on it's face, recovers, and off we go.
If I'm cruising along at 30mph, let off the gas for whatever reason, and gently push it again, it stumbles for a second, everytime. But I have a Weber that runs great other than that.
Still plan on putting in the HS2s soon though! I don't really feel like spending hour after hour and $60 worth of jets to mess with the Weber if I can play with my SUs and end up happier in the end anyway.

PS
iPod has a "traveling tunes" playlist that was made for MG cruising, mostly classic rock.

SU - HS4 - which according to the mechanic is a little big for the engine. He made a partial blanking plate to restrict air some. Should have got an HS2 I suppose.

I think tomorrow will make the mixture a little richer, change the plugs and see if that helps. Otherwise Tuesday will go chat with my mechanic.

Cleaned the garage today - got to get rid of a ton of nasty rags, old interior carpet, broke down the engine stand etc. etc. amazing how much room there is.

I plan to start my ipod driving tunes list soon.

not sure I can - but I will - he wasn't there when I picked it up. but, as I understand it, he restricted the flow between the air cleaner and the carb

Great News and very well done.

Now go and enjoy the little beast.

Cheers

I don't think that a restrictor before the carb is what you want. This can throw off the airflow and create turbulence before the venturi which will greatly affect the air/fuel mix. Velocity stacks are used in the opposite way to smooth out and channel the air flow into the venturi better. I would think that restrictor after the carb would be a better placement. On some Webers, the choke ( the tubular part that comprises the throat and venturi) is replaceable so you can effectively reduce the size of the carb that way.
You hesitation sounds like a lean idle to progression situation. Again, on a Weber, the idle circuit is in play right up through the progression. Try richening that up a hair.

At the risk of stealing a thread.....
To richen up the idle side, I turn the idle mixture screw out a bit, right? I can never remember.... I think though, that I determined I needed a larger jet on the idle side.
(talking about a Weber again now.....OT, sorry)
