E type steering

There has been some discussion on various lists about the e type steering and its tendency to have a mind of its own when cornering due mainly to the metallastic rack mounting bushes even if they are in good condition. When at the 40th E type anniversary in June I spoke to someone who had a car factory fitted ( he said ) with bushes which were placed underneath the security washers ( through the large hole in the rack mount plate) which limited the amount of movement in the flexible bushes. I have made this modification and am very pleased with the result. No need to fit rigid rack mounts.

That sounds like a good and (cheaper) alternative. As it happens, I just recently rebuilt my front end and did use the solid Alumnimum rack mounts. Will be a while yet before I get it on the road to see how it feels. I also used the red Poly-bushes in place of the softer rubber ones that came stock.
