65 E-Type Steering Column Adjustment

I have not been able to loosen the locking nut for the steering column adjustment on this car for over 30 years. In recent years the steering wheel has started to come in/out. I have removed the upper steering column, dismantled it, mounted shaft in a vice and used a chain wrench on the locking nut and still can't get it loose. Ended up denting the locking nut pretty bad.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Have you tried localized heat or soaking in penetrating lubricant. This is a pot metal piece and has probably oxidized some and sticking. Do you have a way of soaking it in penetrating lube and heating the lube? Lube is flammable!! Be careful!

I finally got the lock nut loose. After soaking the lock nut threads in penetrating oil, I used the chain wrench without a rag to protect the lock nut and it finally came loose. I have a good used locknut on the way from Jaguar Heaven. All other parts were fine.
