Tubes req'd w/ wire wheels on Midget??

I did a search on the subject, and the threads I found were all from the Triumph forum. Nothing regarding the Midget.
We have wire wheels on the car, and the tires are beginning to dryrot.
Before the wife drives it much more than "test drives" up and down the road, I'll be replacing the tires. So, on her'78 Midget, do I need to get tubes in the tires if (ok, when) I get her new tires? Will I also need the rubber strip that protects the tube from the spokes? If so, what are they called, and where can I find them?

Yes you will need tubes and it's a good idea to replace those as well as the rim bands whenever you change tires, especially if the tires are just old. If you are mounting them yourself make sure you dust them well with an unscented talc to help lubricate the tubes and allow them to seat into the tires easier. I suppose a scented talc such as baby powder would work, it's just that I fear that the chemical in the scent might affect the rubber in the long run so I use an unscented product.

And without rim bands, you'll pop a tube whenever you hit a pothole...

Also while your changing the tires clean and paint the wheels and check the splines to make sure the wheels are good before you put new rubber on, and since the wheels are off check the brakes and while there restore the car LOL.
