BJ8 convertible drain tubes

I have a friend restoring a BJ8 and he has questioned me about the drain tubes in the BJ8. Having a BT7 I can't help him much. Can someone post or send me some images of the tubes from inside the car and as they exit the car?

Thanks very much!

Cheers

Hi Lin,
Here's what I have.

Nice photos Johnny on the spot.

FWIW, I ended up removing the center back tube. The plastic window got an in print of the rug, from the pressure of the center drain tube pressing against it from behind.

I unzip the window and lay it flat, before putting the top down into the storage area. I think that is the proper way.

Anyway, my fit was so tight, when in that area, the drain tube was pushing against the window. I removed it, plugged the hole and it does not seem to create any water draining issue.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.
I'm sure I'm the only one who has/had that problem.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks guys.

So are there a total of five drain lines? Three along the back and two at the front corners?

yes Lin there are the 5 as Greg's pics show, the middle one is best stuck flat to the boot (trunk as you call it!, Queeny would prefer it if you used the correct term on your British / English Automobile) back with a contact adhesive to get it to lie as far back as possible.

(and a little tip is they often sell it quite long so you only need 3 lengths, you can use one length for a back piece and wheel arch piece)

(second tip, it is a better fit as a cover for the bonnet catch return spring, the one they usually supply is too big a diameter!)

cheers Andy

Andy,
Thanks very much! I actually checked your site before posting my question, but I didn't see any photos that would be helpful to my friend. You have so many good reference images that I thought a review of your site might be of benefit. Do you (or anyone else) have an image from above the car showing the "trough" that collects the water?

just fought my way thru the english snow drift to the garage for your pics
the trough or drain channel is riveted to the shroud (before fitting shroud)

sorry for the link but its easier to put them on my site as I havent loaded a photo editor on my new laptop to reduce the pic size yet

https://www.austin-healey3000.com/apps/photos/photo.jsp?photoID=24461178&prev=2

then you have a j section rail that fits over this trough with a rubber seal between the two:

https://www.austin-healey3000.com/apps/photos/photo.jsp?photoID=24461179&prev=2

the rail actually has the hood clipped to it before its screwed to the trough

heres the hood attached to the rail:

I believe one healey supplier sells the rubber seal for a lot of money (it may be a j section shape). I got a roll of flat thin rubber from Cape International for a few pounds (they use it on their cars)which looks fine.

hope this helps
