TR2/3/3A TR3 Fuel line rubbing

While under the car today for a general look around and some zerk greasing, I noticed my steel fuel line rubbing against the road draft tube. It had rubbed against it enough that there was a definite "cavity" in the fuel line. I split some rubber fuel line to cover the rubbing, but it might be a warning for other '3 owners to have a looksee there...

In that area the steel line should be held snugly to the frame with clips. It sounds like your clips are missing. The lower one is inside the frame, and an upper one holds the line against the spring tower support. I tried to post a pic, but my connection is poor. Will try tomorrow if nobody else has one.

Thx, John. This might have been where the original fuel cutoff was eliminated(?), which might explain the kludged setup here.

The original cutoff was higher up on the diagonal spring support. I'll post a couple pictures shortly...

As promised...

This pic shows the location. The silver line touching the vent tube is the speedo cable that is still unsecured in the photo. The fuel line, on the left, is clear of the vent by at least 3"



You can just see the clip end sticking out inboard of the fuel line, on the diagonal brace



On the early cars the cutoff was located on the frame, about where you see my hard line ending. The flex line to the pump was braided.

In case you want to "FIX" it with a fuel shut off. I went through two of them before I could get one that did not leak. Poor design or cork gasket problem on the Repos.

Great pix, John. For whatever reason, I have less steel gas line and more rubber fuel line. Those pix will help. That chassis is a thing of beauty and wonder!

As for Jerry's idea, I just use a golf tee inline for the rare time I need to shut off the gas feed...

Yeah...go figure. They went to the trouble of using a near bullet proof braided flex line, then connected it to a leak prone valve.
