There's a discussion on the email list about the necessity/value of fitting an oil cooler. General consensus is not really necessary/helpful, but it sounds like you'd want one in Andrea's circumstances (but I'll bet all the other stuff done to aid cooling helped quite a bit). Someone mentioned a heat exchanger that split a seam, and I've heard of hoses bursting, but pretty much every light aircraft has one and reliability is something of an issue when airborne. Also, most aircraft have a 'Vernatherm,' which prevents oil from circulating through the exchanger until it reaches a suitable running temperature. I've not seen one for cars, though.
