I've been pleased with the performance running a Pertronix I in a 45d for more than a dozen years. Last June while on Amazon I stumbled onto a "Pertronix D7172420 Flame-Thrower Plug and Play Top Exit Style Cap Vacuum Advance Electronic Distributor with Ignitor III for British 25D 4-Cylinder Engine" for $192.50. Liking the price (I had briefly thought about a 123ignition but its $400+ cost stopped me) and intrigued by the multi-spark at all rpm's, I ordered one. Well while it showed in stock, it didn't ship. Every once in a while Amazon would email and ask if I still wanted it (I'd reply "yes"). It was finally delivered two weeks ago. Reading the installation instructions, I found that I didn't have the needed coil (.32ohm) so getting that that upped the ante by another $44.
Installed it yesterday and am pleased to report it is an improvement. While the Pertronix I brought super easy starting, a good idle, and solid performance, the Pertronix III gives all of that plus it improves on the "pull" from 1500 rpm. (particularly noticeable in 4th gear). The exhaust note even sounds crisper...and don't think it's my imagination.
Anyway, thought the group might find my results interesting - even though I know there are many of you that favor points.
