I could be in trouble here...

You definitely would need both. The new car for her and the midget for you!
(you know, the old "Honey, I bought it for you" routine! )

That might work if I could find a TR4 or a Mini I could afford.

The Midget is more fun.

Maybe you can talk a friend into buying it. That way you can work on it sometimes and take drives together. That way you can still enjoy it.

that isn't going to work any better than double dating with you buddy who is dating your last girlfriend that you wished you hadn't dumped! !!!!

Nah. If I turned over a good deal to a friend I don't get resentful of myself or the car. That's just silly.

1. Wouldn't the A/C would be nice in those Austin summers?
2. The landcrab's good for groceries or luggage.
3. More comfy on longer trips.
And most importantly...
4. You NEED both to complete the set.

If you do get it then try to find an Austin America trans for it- that one has a syncro first and a much better diff ratio.

They are geat little cars and the hydrolastic suspension has an amazing ride for a small car. If you get it, I can hook you up with a great MG1100 forum.

Here's one I completely restored a few years ago... belongs to a neighborhood friend now. It took 1st place in the saloon class at the Pleasanton MG meet a couple years ago.

Can be done, but not a direct bolt-on swap.

I drove a lot of miles in an 1100 when they were new. Very enjoyable and fun to drive.

I owned an Austin America years ago. Not as sporty as a Spridget, but a lovely car in its own right.
Be sure you have access to service equipment for the hyrdro suspension. I'm not sure where you'd find that; maybe Gerard could suggest.

These are not technically "landcrabs".....that's the bigger (similar looking) car with the 1800 engine.

Nice but I think $3500 is spend for an 1100.

Me too. It was thought to be stodgy, but I enjoyed it. That "hydro-spastic" suspension, though, was annoying. One would soon get a sagging side. Not only is it worth finding suspension tools (and I seem to recall some you can make yourself), but you could also consider converting it to dry.

I had 2 at one point. One of them had its prior owner switch to "Arco Graphite!" Remember that stuff. With an A-series 1275, there was this black stuff EVERYWHERE. And once you go to that stuff, you nearly have to stay with. Wonder what ever happened to that car.

The later MG 1300 had one of the best a-type engines they produced, short of the 'S'. My father re-built one to 1392 and put it in a Mini; it went went very well.

Neat litle cars, looks like decent car at a fair price. Persoanlly I like them better than a Mini, but I like strange looking things, and the fact the 1100's engine bay is more roomy to work than a Midget.
