Engine removal question

Hello all.. I'm new to the list, and have a question about pulling the engine in my TR4A. Seems the last person to rebuild the engine thought crankshaft end play of 1/4 inch was adequate... So the question is simple: where does one attach the hoist? I have an Oberg Tilt-lift and will be pulling both engine and tranny.

For what it's worth...

The engine originally had lifting eyes, one was attached to the right rear head stud (and the manifold stud below it) and the other to a pair of studs on the block just below the bypass hose. The rearward eye is available from Moss et al, I think the forward one is NLA but shows up on eBay quite often.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I was just pulling parts off a 4a engine today, and grabbed the lifting brackets as my engine was missing them. There should be a bracket by the #4 cylinder right next to the heater valve, and another bracket attached to the front engine plate near the water pump bypass outlet.

I'm sure that's not the only way to pull the engine, but those were the factory points.

Welcome to the forum. You had a bit of a Nor'easter down your way, din't ya??

It rained hard all day here and it's probably in your neck of the woods right now.

I just wanted to welcome you and to say that I haven't the foggiest idea where the lift points are for a TR4A engine. I can help with a TR6, but not the 4A.

Someone with that expertise will be along shortly, if not by the time that I type this.

Thanks, all. Unfortunately, there are no lifting eyes on this motor - prob left off by the p.o. who installed the crankshaft... But I'll use those points and fashion something of my own to pull on. I'll try to replace them during reassembly.

It's blowing hard here tonight, and raining to match.
