Clutch Question

I am new here, however I have owned my '74 Midget for about 30 years. I discovered that by closing the vent hole on the clutch master cylinder hole, the one in the cap, my clutch travel improved. I know why would this be, got me, but it was real, any thoughts?

The master, is not leaking and was rebuilt by Apple Hydr, about a year ago, the slave is probably leaking and will be dealt with when the season ends. The master leaking and sealing the hole makes sense, the slave does not.

You are essentially holding your thumb over the end of the straw. I suspect that the slave cylinder is not fully retracting giving the feel of better pedal travel. I wouldn't keep doing that were I you.

However, a useful "trick" when you get around to replacing the slave or working on any other hydraulic component is to fill the master and cover the reservoir with a plastic bag then put the cap on. This way, when you undo a hose or line, very little fluid will drip out, and bleeding time will be minimal to almost non-existent. (especially if you install the slave with the piston pushed all the way in)

And..... welcome aboard!
