Which way for intake exhaust gasket?

On a 74 TR6 which way does the intake exhaust gasket go when one surface has metal and the other gasket material or does it make a difference.
I installed mine with the metal surface to the head.
Is this ok?

The metal surface faces the manifolds. You have it backwards, but who's to say it won't work?
