Well, driving today and...

Well, it was a beautiful light overcast day today in Victoria B.C., one of those perfect winter days, I had the top down in my Spit, and headed out on the highway.

I passed a few cars, and noticed that every time I exceeded 4000 RPM with my foot to the floor, the car would sputter fairly badly.

This car runs almost perfectly otherwise, starts every time, and seems to have as much power as can be for the stock North American 1500.

The car has points still, and single Stromberg, All in good shape, anyone seen this before?

Cheers,

Adam H.

Adam, check the oil in the top of the carb, it's one of the mysteries of these cars when they set for a while, it disappears. Wayne

My car had this problem when accelerating. I filled the carbs and nothing changed. I replaced the condensor and the car runs beutiful.I had no idea the faulty condensor would cause this type of problem and replaced it as a last ditch effort. It worked for me. Who knows........

Could be that your points have closed up slightly.

the points can close up a little as the rub block on them wear on the lobes. I've had that happen on my 67 spit.

Thanks for these good tips. I know the slide diaphram is good(new in fact), I usually put motor oil in the carb, but tried brake fluid recently, but I will try a new condensor Spooch. I think your on the right track - it seems like it just cuts out - if it were fuel starvation I'm thinking it would backfire. It does not backfire. I know the points are in good condition, and I own a dwell meter, so the points are set exactly.
