Tune up sequence???

Doing a tune up on my 1960 bugeye with a 1098 engine and am unclear on the order of things to address. Planning on doing the following: new plugs, new points, adjust valves, adjust timing, adjust carbs. Any help on what to do first Iif it matters) would be appreciated.

The valves and timing have to be right to do the carbs, and you don't want to run with the valve adjustment off, so it pretty much has to be the order Jeff suggests.

Hello Bob,

I have to disagree with one point, I would do the mixture before doing the timing for the simple reason that the timing needs adjusting depending on mixture. It doesn't matter if you are setting timing to a specific figure, but if you are tuning to the engine, get the mixture right first. Idle speed may need some trimming after doing the timing.

Alec, I do the initial in the above outlined sequence. Final adjustment is a back and forth process between the timing and the carbs.

The exact science would have to include a back and forth process. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Hello Jeff,

if you do the mixture first you should have less back and to adjustment.
I went into it in a little more detail on Bob's other post on timing method.
