TR2/3/3A TR3 Door Seal Rubber Question photo request

I ordered a door seal kit from TRF. My TR3 was a stalled project and the rubber had been removed and so I don't really know how the rubber goes back on. TRF is assuming that I do and included no visual or written aid. The online catalog gives a vague description If you are familiar with the door seal kit I know the long piece clips to the bottom of the door. A shorter piece glues on the end of the door another piece clips to the shuttle on the curved part of the upper door opening. I'm left wondering if the hinged area takes a seal. I really don't know where the <span style="font-weight: bold">fuzzy</span> strip goes unless it goes on the tendon plate to seal the storm curtain at the side of the windscreen. Any tips you might offer would be appreciated. It is an odd place for a photo but if you have a photo or a link that would be appreciated too.

Don't bother with the seal along the bottom of the door. At least for now. When you try to fit that one, you will find that your door won't close, so you will have to do as many TR3A owners have done. We all took these seals off again and we don't have any along the bottom. I found that out in 1990 as I was finishing my restoration. I never lost any points for this at any judged TRA or VTR concours.

And you won't need this seal unless you're planning to drive all winter long and you want to keep the snow from blowing in and keep that biting winter wind out. I only drive top-down all summer long and any air that comes in there is welcome.

There is no seal up the door near the chromed latch plate nor is there any seal on the door up the front where the hinges are located.

I don't know what you mean by something being glued there. There was never any gluing of any seals on my 1958 TR3A.

Thank you for your time Don. Your posts and photos were extremely helpful,
I see where that fur flex (what I was calling fuzzy) goes now. I don't have any kick panel carpet in so I wasn't visulizing it being there. Seeing how you have yours makes sence now. I saw where you posted on the other thread in regard to cutting the rubber a 1/4 inch short and rolling the fabric back into the tube. That is a great idea.


I did think the bottom would be a tight fit and it is good to know that a many folks are not installing it. TRF's kit has you gluing in a piece by latch and have you purchace 3M weather strip adhesive with the kit.

It will be a fair weather machine. I drove my Spitfire some in the winter months but it is not the same without the hood down.

Excellent pictures, thank you as well - these technical closeups are great resources, especially in the case of acquiring a project in boxes or forgetting how you just took something apart.
