TR6 TR-6 Drive Shaft Removal ?

Although not mentioned by the workshop manuals I consulted, my
recallection is that either the tranny or the diff must be pulled, to allow enough room to remove the drive shaft.

Due to the central frame, it is not possible to pull the
drive shaft from the rear of the rear, even if the rear of the car is placed high on jack stands. Is this correct ?

I was once told it could be done but I've never had success at pulling it without removing the differential.

I believe that if you have a standard 4 speed transmission you will be able to follow the directions in the Bentley manual and remove the drive shaft directly. If you have a J type overdrive you must remove the differential to withdraw the drive shaft. When doing this job last summer I found out the hard way that there is not enough clearance between the transmission and drive shaft flange to lower the front of the shaft to remove it from the car.
One benefit to removing the differential, if you haven't done so already, is that you get to inspect the frame and mounts in that area. I discovered that the front right diff mount was cracked and repaired it before a rather long road trip.

I've done it on a TR4A. Not easy but doable. Exhaust is a major issue as I recall. Been several years since I did this.

If the J type prohibits removal, then my A type was the cause for my having to pull the differential.
