My replacement drive shaft arrived from Jim Kitchens. Thanks go to him for getting it to me quickly, and to Jack for telling me Jim had one available. The shaft looks to be in good condition, no dents or holes. It's got some surface rust, but I think I can sand that down and spray paint it. This is an early shaft which has a different front piece that slides into the transmission. Later model pieces don't have the hollow shell around the splined piece.
Today I found a shop in Marietta that will install my new u-joints and balance the assembly for a very reasonable price. Perhaps by middle of next week I'll be pitching a fit trying to get it reinstalled on the car.
