Shock absorber question:

Hi everyone,

Now that I sorted out the carburetor float problem I got the BT7 out for a great drive. Shock absorbers need some kind of work. My shocks have a plate mounted on the inboard side of the absorber, with 6 screws holding the plate on. I'm curious what's under the plate. It's accessible enough that it looks like it's there for (routine?) maintenance. Is there anything I can do under that plate to improve the performance of the shocks?

I hope this isn't the dumbest question you've ever read here.

Thanks.

DarfVader62,

Did we meet at Brisbane British Car Show last week (Sunday 7th)? If so, good to learn that you've found the forum and your carb problem is now resolved.

To answer your specific question, lever shocks can be modified with upgraded valving - access if not though the plate described though. If shocks are suspect, first check oil level through filler hole located on top of the front shocks and on the facing side of rear shocks (look for the 3/8" or 1/2" bolt head). Use the proper shock oil. If the shocks leak, consider replacing with remanufactured items. There are sources that could do this and the valve modification if required.

If you need more help let us know.

BTW- It was a honor to be selected Best Austin Healey amongst so many that were, in my opinion, more deserving!

Well, you should have won. I think you had the best car there. I appreciate the lead to the guy in San Leandro; I'm set up to have him do some work on 9-22. When I get this thing fully sorted and painted, maybe we can set up a trip somewhere with the wives...
