It's often been said that Southern California has no seasons. This is nonsense. Our seasons, like our residents, simply express themselves a little differently than others'.
Having recently bid farewell to the air conditioning/power failure season we now find ourselves drifting into the changing colors and subtle aromas of the brushfire season.
As the smoke and ash fall gently around us I would like to suggest to my fellow LBCers that you wash your cars often. Ash tends to be both gritty and acidic, two things that are very bad for paint.
Be sure to use a high quality auto shampoo with good lubricity and a gentle mitt that will knock the grit loose without rubbing it into the finish. Never wipe ash from a dry paint surface. Always use suds or a detailing spray.
If you find that there are gritty specs that won't wash off do not scrub them. That will scour the paint. Use a clay bar to remove them. Renew it often and use lots of lubricant.
