At least everthing on the Herald was woring well enough to pass the safety inspection and get back on the road

The old inspection sticker expired in 2008. Then the newly rebuilt head started causing problems and I discovered an old, repaired crack in the head, so off with the old head and on with a brand new fresh from Mr. Stan Parts never touched casting. Only problem was that it was for a 1500 engine and I have a 1290. Took allot of machining to get the compression ratio right.
So now for the first time since I bought it, the engine seems to be just right, the gear boxs shift properly, the chassis isn't loose and wobbly.. to bad the paint is all falling off. but who cares it is just about perfect driving season here.

You just had to say that didn't you????

Seriously, I hope that it all stays running well for you. Was having a different head a good or a bad thing for your engine? I must admit that I don't know much about Heralds.

A 1500 head on a 1300 block would have resulted in very low compression. I had to have something over 1mm removed to get the compression back up to normal. The only other difference is that it has much larger intake valves than the original head. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Of course getting rid of the crack in the head did make a big difference

Well do driving already then! Grin.

Send pictures - and enjoy. I know it has been a lot of work to get to this point.
