replacing BJ8 convertible top

If you're planning on replacing the top on your car I just discovered a little trick. After watching the instructional tape from Moss Motors many times I started the project. All went well until I got to attaching the top to the rear drip rail. The new clips are difficult to put on and even harder to take off when adjustments are required. The clips have sharp points in them that pierce the fabric so they won't slip off. To keep from damaging the cloth and make adjustments go much easier, use the clips from your old top. With a needle nose pliers bend or break off the little points so they don't dig into the cloth. They provide enough grip to hold the material in place, can be removed much easier than the new clips and won't damage the cloth. When you have the top properly located you can replace the old clips with the new clips for the final setting. It was difficult, but can be done! Steve

I've put tops on several different models of LBCs over the years, I have to say the BJ8 was and is the hardest to do of all. That is a trick I will need to remember when/if I do another one.

Staying on the convertible top subject. How did the front rail fit to the windshield top? Mine looks good when stopped, but when the wind catches it, it needs something to anchor down the middle of the rail. What have you used?

Can't say I have experienced that problem, has your front bow cracked? to cause such movement. Try flexing it by hand that will give you some idea, you should not be able to generate movement.

The front bow was not cracked, and I did fit it to the windshield prior to wrapping in vinyl. IE: I have a large belt sander that made it a better fit. It seems to fit when still but once moving the middle opens up a little. It would have been better if they had designed a latch for the middle. I have seen a few cars that use a suitcase latch there to solve the problem.
