I never seem to be able to properly search these forums. I assume the photos in the engine manual are correct in placing the long axes of these oval washers parallel to the crank. Question is the convex surface facing up against the sump?

Question is the convex surface facing up against the sump?--The washer is probably bent from over tightening straighten it out or replace with new.

Hello Bob, I'm not really sure that the convex or concave part being up or down makes a whole lot of difference. But I would either hammer them flat or use the concave part up. the big deal is what you are using for gasket and sealing. There are so many variables here i'm sure there are as many opinions. One thing is you should not have to torque or overly tighten these screws. A good sealing compound and the right gasket and just snug them up. The sealing compound doesn't what to be squeezed out of the joint.
