Be careful with that one - it wasn't a Works-built (factory-built) car....if you read his well crafted language, you'll see that there was some factory financial backing but it is strictly a privateer! Words like "...the very last works backed effort..." & "British Leyland's funding went to NASCAR's Smokey Yunick..."

She's definitely a neat period car but she's not one of the factory cars!

read my post regarding this car at
https://www.britishcarforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=001451

I am leaning to concur that this is not a true 78 'Works' built car. However Smokey's shop may have been Works subsidized while this car was being built.. Im also weary that it is in fact a 78. If you closely on the inside the hood view you will see on the left side the round hemispherical divot in the box under the water bottle. Correct me if im wrong here but that only exists 64-67 for sure.. possibly the 68. I know its flat capped with a round welded on plate on my 69 and aboslutely does not exist 71+. Also evidence is the absense of a brake booster, yah I know race car... weight all that but there is not even provisions for one in the pedal box like there would be on a 78 model. Come to think of it .. where is the brake fluid resevoir.. is that what the big metal box is where the heater/fan goes?

Ah well .. Caveat emptor. If it is a older car so be it, if it is actually a works car then great! If not you will only be out about 15,000 to 20,000 of your 30,000 investment =]

I saw it earlier with a "buy it now" price over $30k !! Yikes!

Look at the radiator location in addition to what was mentioned about the hole for RHD. Definitly a MK 1 MGB GT.
