I was so preoccupied staring, I did not take as many as I should. The MG race car was really cool and it's owner Steve Mullen (i'm standing with him) was a real nice guy. I'm sure if I were there any longer he would have let me take it for a drive. He was very informative about it and does just about everything on the car himself.

I'm stunned by the first B in that series. It's like lookin' into a doll house.... not real but not CGI. How amazing. It's PROPER, yet one step beyond. Too "perfect".

I like the spare key screwed to the firewall. But yes, looks better than showroom new.

Key's in th' wrong place. Should be on th' starboard side of th' engine bay if it came from Royston.

I thought the same thing. You should have seen (well you probably already have) the 998/100 concours car. Every last nut bolt and bracket was perfect and clean.

Not necessarily. While most "spare" keys were indeed mounted to the right inner fender (that's exactly where I found the spare key on my MGB/GT), near the coil...I know that they were also positioned where Morrell (owner of this particular MGB) has his as shown. This was one of the many questions that I asked of Geoff Allen (R.I.P.) during my tenure as Concours Coordinator of NAMGBR. Geoff worked rectification at the Abingdon factory for 26 years.

If you want to see more, nice MGB race cars (and they'll actually be *racing*), come to our VRG vintage races at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville on September 19th - 21st. It will also involve a vintage aircraft show, so it'll be great!

I did happen to listen in on a discussion of concours prep on one of the MGBs on Friday. One fellow, who was obviously experienced in this area, was talking about weather or not the valve cover screws should be painted and how they are maintained without chipping the paint.
It was interesting, but these are questions I'll never be asking about my B.

Speaking of my car, Moss came through today, and I have all the engine parts I ordered. So after I finished mounting four new race tires for the Spridget (by hand), I started on the B. It's got 3 pistons back in place now and I should have most of the engine stuff done tomorrow....I hope.

I'm still trying to figure out a way of getting them off by hand. I'd rather store rims than rims and tires when the tires are totatlly shot.

umm, VINCE! If th' tyres are "totally shot" there's this thingie I bet you already have called a "SawzAll"... that and some bolt cutters to cut the bead. :devilgrin:

I have a manual bead-breaker I made. Othewise, just two tire irons, a spritz-bottle of soapy water and a lot of ~grunt~.
A large rubber mallet can help too.
And afterwards, some sudsy beverages for future motivation. :devilgrin:

Fed-Ex just came today with new tires for the B, so I'll be doing all four wire wheels next week...tubes are a pain to deal with. Just gotta keep checking as you work the tire onto the rim. And inflate/deflate a few times so that everything inside gets "friendly".

Tried that. Sazwall to cut through but the bolt cutters would not do the trick. Need to check them cutters I guess. OK the heart and mind is in the right spot now I need to make sure my tool is.

I just love those stell rostyle wheels on the GTV8s. Very nice. I wonder if they're lightweight (like a racing wheel)??

MBGTV8: maybe my fave LBC, just love 'em! :thumbsup:
