MG Production Resumes at Longbridge

Just heard on the news this morning that MG production has now actually resumed at Longbridge.

I doubted it would happen... but let's hope they make a success of it.

I am happy for the people who will be put back to work. At this stage of the game, I'd say that's the most important part of it all. I guess the car would sell here in the mid 30s or so. I personally don't like the looks of the car, as it looks like every other glob that rolls off the assembly line. The wheels are ugly! The style of the top is behind times! Is it powered? Why the old style rag top cover when everybody is going to the metal covers and fully automatic tops. More Lift-a-Dots! Like putting wooden spoke wheels on a Corvette! Oh well, I guess there's people out there who will pay whatever for the MG logo, whatever it's nailed to. Just not my cup of tea!

And about time too.....Now they need to think new and more affordable models if the revived marque is to survive.

Yep, couple of things. Need to do something with those nasty wheels and the awful sound it makes.

Does not sound like a sports car at all. But then I have an ice pick that would prob fix that.

Well I'll tell you what just happened to me, I watched the video and at the end of the video it asks "play video again?" I answered no thanks.
It's a typical out of touch Chinese product. They don't bother to learn about their new markets, they don't use proper English syntax when promoting their products, they steal ideas at a far more serious pace than even the Japanese did back in the late 1900's. They just produce stuff that brings in money, no heart. Once the Brits get it on their turf, perhaps it will be a different story, but that unit looks like KIABMWAUDI.
And Paul is absolutely right, take a look at the Miata hard top, wow! Like many others I guess, I don't put my top up unless it's snowing!!! So I would prefer a store away hard top in every instance.

For less than half that cost you can buy a VERY nicely restored MGB.

For less than $30K you can buy a 'like new' MG (whatever model & year you want).

WHY would you buy one of these things when you could have the very best of the cars we love that someone has already lovingly restored to better than new condition?

I guess its just me, I don't get it. :crazy:

I bet production sells out quickly if they are only going to make 700 a year.

Why only 700 for the first year?

It must be similar to another car they manufacture, with a little extra plastic and a few MG decals. It is not economically feasible to sell only 700 units, not even close.

Testing the market? Seems probable.

Not a very compelling car, and way too much good competition in that price range.

I hope they come up with something better than this for the old marque!
