Having trouble identifying the true BN-7 production numbers, by year. Anyone have this? Ive also tripped up on this because im reading the early BN-7's were considered 100/6's? We have a low chassis ID 2286, so just curious of what it really was. The Heritage Cert doesnt distinguish....

Clausager's book Original Austin Healey has a chart of all the 3000 production numbers and date ranges. If you don't have that I will transcribe it for you tonight.

From Clausager's table:

Date BT7 BN7
1959 101-6520 186-6686
1960 6521-13561 6831-13538
1961 13562-17126 13539-17051
1962 17127-19853 17052-18888

Hope this helps. Sorry, the chart I typed got scrunched together. After the date, the first set of numbers are for BT7s, and the second set of numbers are for BN7s.

Hugh, this is terrific. Thank you very much!

Do they break down the actual amount of units? So, if im reading this properly, in 1959 how many actual units did they produce? Im wondering if its the 6686-6520, 166 units in 59'?

From Clausager's table:

Date BT7 BN7
1959 101-6520 186-6686
1960 6521-13561 6831-13538
1961 13562-17126 13539-17051
1962 17127-19853 17052-18888

Yes. Here is the breakdown:

In 1959, they made 1118 BN4, 329 BN6, 1691 BN7, and 4762 BT7. At 7900 total, 1959 was the biggest year for big Healeys!

Looks like your car was built in July, 1959 based upon the listing of production changes in the book, which has this entry: "From BT7/2194 and BN7/2276, cars for North America now fitted with sealed beam headlamps at the factory, July 1959." So, the car that was 10 numbers before yours got these new headlamps. I think the difficulty in identifying numbers on these cars is that the various models were mixed into the same series of numbers. That is, the chart I provided earlier simply says that the first BN7 in 1959 had car number 186, and the last had number 6686, but there are BT7s in there as well, and lots of them. There were 1691 BN7s made in 1959.
