Wedge TR8 pre-production coupe

A buddy of mine just put his 78 TR8 pre-production coupe up for sale. It is a pretty nice car. Not nearly as nice as the brown one his son just sold for $9K, but nice and well cared for. Cars like this usually get sold thru word of mouth, and don't stay on the market long. If you want a coupe, here's your chance. They are a rare breed. It is estimated that there were less than 400 coupes made, and less than 150 were the pre-production models built in 77. A good number of those early cars were automatics. This one is not only a 5 speed, but it also has the rare sliding Webasto moon roof. As far as TR8s go, I much prefer the coupes over the convertibles. I've had four. Sold one, have one, wrecked two. The last three are/were race cars, and I say wrecked, but they can be rebuilt with a clean shell. Looks nice. I don't think you are violating any rules by telling the rest of us about the availability of such a find.
I think someone out here in the forum may now see something that they otherwise might never be exposed to.


To add to the mix, my buddy up the road from me is "restoring" his TR8 coupe, getting it reading (hopefully) for the New Orleans car show. The restoration is not gonna be concours in that he is improving the insane wiring harness that these jewels came with. Being a professional helicopter mechanic he is wiring the car with industry-grade wiring, mimicking a TR6 harness in its simplicity, using relays where needed and eliminating much of the clutter of a stock TR8. Everything works. Being a neat freak, the car is a joy to look at. He completely rebuilt the engine and drivetrain. I love an engine that you can eat your breakfast on. All Emron coated. I had the pleasure of driving his 8 pre-restoration. That sucker is a hotrod. I went looking for Mustangs to challenge!
