Re: Eastwood Midrise lift

Hi Lin,
My first question is how low does the lift go in the down position? If it wouldn't just slip under, I can see a real war getting four corners of the car high enough to get the lift into place. Possibly a lot more trouble than conventional lifting methods.

Randy,
I couldn't tell is it fixed to the ceiling? How is it fastened to the floor?

There are ten (10) 3/4" concrete anchors into the floor; five (5) per column. The holes cut into the sheetrock ceiling was to gain the last 3/4" of height required. I thought it could be "blocked" to the ceiling to be sure that it couldn't tip, but the installer considered that to be overkill (he's never had any of his clients lose a lift).

The biggest problem I see with a mid-rise lift is that it is only good for working with very limited access to the undercarriage;

Hi Randy and Lin,

If someone needs more access, they could use the midrise lift to quickly set jackstands and then crawl around as needed. I agree that a true lift would be great. I've looked into a few models but my garage ceiling is only 8' and less than 7' when the garage door is open. I might be better off digging a pit! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I do have a friend who bought the Pro park 7 (4 post lift) from a local company and is very happy with it. Just another option to consider. https://www.directlift.com/

Cheers,
John

Re: Eastwood Midrise lift

Lin -
I have a 48" mid-rise lift and I find it to be very useful for brakes, tires, and suspension work. It also makes waxing the sides of the vehicles much more comfortable.
I can do a tire rotation on our daily drivers in a matter of minutes and oil changes/lubing are a breeze.
On my BJ7, I need more than the 4 3/4" resting height, so I just place a couple of 2x10s on the sides and drive on to the boards.
As far as negatives, the Bugeyes will not fit. The lift is wider than the Bugeye track width. Also, while they say the lift is portable, moving a 1000 lb. piece of equipment is a chore.

Thanks, John

Glad to know that about the Bugeye particularly!

Come on, you get one end and I'll get the other, after all it's only a Bugeye, LOL.

Re: Eastwood Midrise lift

Randy,
How high is the ceiling in your garage? I am interested in how much ceiling height I need to put the healey on top and a 3 series BMW below. I think I am going to go with a four post lift.

Re: Eastwood Midrise lift

Hi Lin,

I have a 4-post lift. I had my garage ceiling built at 12 feet and this gives me about 2 feet of clearance with the Healey up and an S-Class Mercedes underneath. My Healey has the original radio and right front fender mounted antenna, which sticks up about a foot above the windscreen, so my actual clearance above the antenna is only about a foot. This is adequate to clear the door lift unit as well, even with the top up. BTW, I love my lift - it makes it so easy to work on the underside of the Healey!
