color wiring diagram, where to get one?

I'm looking for a color wiring diagram, or at least a key to decipher the wire colors. Any suggestions??? Somebody somewhere has to have one or sell one.....

Anyway, looking at the wiring diagrams I have (haynes manual) is very confusing as it's black and white. The color markings are pretty much useless. For example, is g green or gray. What about white with a purple stripe? WP maybe, but that's not on the diagram.

The prince of darkness visits my '79 occasionally, like this morning when the gauges (except the speedo of course)brake lights and directionals all went out. The normal wiggles and jiggles did not revive them. Then all of a sudden they're back. They died in the middle of the night and came back mid morning. All while the car was parked.

The Google can be tricky sometimes, in this instance I typed "british car color wiring diagrams"........

The link in Westie's post gets to diagrams as good as it gets. Sounds like discontinuity at a "source" point: fusebox or iggy switch.

I purchased a 11 X 17 laminated color diagram off of ebay for about 20 bucks....found it to be helpful. The larger size was quite a bit easier on the eyes.

I went to staples and blew up the book one to 11X17 and borrowed my daughter's magic markers

I printed the appropriate diagram in color on 11x17 paper and took it to the local copy center and had it laminated to use as a reference when wiring my 11. Can't remember the exact cost but it wasn't much.

Print the diagram off the Advance Autowire Site. Take it to Office Max, staples, etc... Have it blown up to 11x17 and then laminated. See if they have a single hole punch handy and punch a hole in each upper corner. Should be about 5 bucks out the door.

At home in your garage/shop, put up two nails or hooks in the wall that match the holes you punched. Great shop art and you can take it down when needed.

I have 2 up.One for the B and the other for the Sprite.

I just went out and looked at it. It's from colorwiringdiagrams.com. the guy on e-bay. 18 bucks with free shipping.

Color diagram not really needed.... I just used the schematic printed in the Bentley manual. Sure it's B&W but so what?... the wires are labled with the colors, and that's all you need in addition to a vom meter.

The standard coding for Lucas wiring is this.
B = black (always earth)
U = blue (headlights)
N = brown (unfused, always hot)
W = white (unfused, hot with ign on)
G = green (fused, hot with ign on)
R = red (other lights)
P = purple (fused, always hot)
A = gray
K = pink
S = slate
LG = light green
Other than LG, wires with 2 letters have a tracer instead of solid color. The first letter represents the main color and the second is the tracer. So, a white with purple tracer would be WP and a red brown with blue tracer would be NU. Wires with tracer are typically after a switch. Solids are typically unswitched.
