I have misplaced the nuts that hold the bonnet (hood) prop rod to the hood. Base coat clear coat is wonderful but it sure screws up the threads. Does any one know the size and thread pitch for these two nuts? Thanks Tom

Marv, as we know about 80% of the nuts and bolts are 1/4 28 but not these nuts. They are much smaller. Any help would be appreciated. I have three TR-3As but two are in NJ and the one I am working on is in Atlanta so I can't examine my others.

Yep, they're really really small. Mine are not identical (i.e. one stud has been replaced with a slightly different size) and I do not know which one is correct.

IIRC they are 10-32. About that size anyway, and when I lost one, there was another in the hardware stash.

But it is also possible that they changed with different versions of the bonnet amd my cars have all been pre-TS60K (when the body changed).

Aloha,

I just checked my bonnet. A 10-32 nut threads on the stud and the nut removed from the bonnet threads on to a 10-32 machine screw. The nuts on my bonnet however do not seem to match current 10-32 nuts which require a larger wrench. The nuts from the bonnet use a 5/16 socket.

Thanks everyone I will clean the threads and get some stainless 10-32 nuts. Progress. Started this restoration like 6 years ago. Took a couple years off due to a family illness but am getting back at it. Chasis and drive train is complete. Body on frame and all fenders, doors etc are painted just waiting to install. I am aboout 40% re-wired. Should be runnig by spring!!! (Don't ask which spring). By the way this is the same 1960 TR-3A I built out of a $200 wreck in the 60s. Yes I kept it and now have 3 TR-3As.

Hi Arrow,

I`m just curious; Where in NJ do you have the other 2 TR3s stashed? I lived in "Clifton" about 100yrs. ago.

I have 2 TR-3As in Medford Lakes. Small town near Cherry Hill, Marlton, Morrestown. I have 2 1958's there and a 1960 (but by serial number it is a 1959) here in Atlanta. Medford Lakes is a neat little town clustered around 22 lakes. We moved there in 1959 when Castro over threw Batista and shut off the water supply to the USA military side of the island. In those days the ships were not efficient enough to convert enough salt water for the military personel and their families so most of the families returned ot the states. Years later I was renting a garage to store cars stuff (TR-3 parts car, 27 Pierce Arrow, 31 Chevy and a few motorcycles, the older lady had to move to an assisted living home and said I needed to move the cars so she could sell the house. Bought the house and now have a neat old big log cabin on the lake and still have two TR-3As in the garage, the 31 Chevy, a couple motorcycles plus piles of car parts. I am now renting another garage in town to store a 60 356 Porsche which may be my next restoration.

TR-3A Gas filler [fiber washer]

My TR-3 is a 1960 by title and 1959 by serial number. The gas cap is the type that then has an escutcheon, goes down through body and below is a "fiber washer" then extention taht goes into the rubber connector to the tank. TRF, Moss nor British Victoria have the fiber washer. Does any one know of a source? Or has anyone made one and out of what material? Thanks Tom

Re: TR-3A Gas filler [fiber washer]

Mine's cut from a piece of thin cardboard. Might have been a cereal box, but I don't recall for sure.
