Another hard to find part?

I am starting to install the oil cooler and kit from Dennis Welch, (Did the header last week..vroom)

I am seeking any help from the forum on this, so a few questions...

The brackets from Dennis Welch seem to want to mount to the radiator mounts...unless like me you have a big electric fan installed in front of it...so I noticed some threaded holes in the frame outriggers in front of the front crossmember...any idea on the thread or size of these holes? Would they work?

Also, would you guys think that I should put some thread sealer or locktite on the fittings as I assemble this?

Did you route the stainless steel hoses UNDER the radiator or around it? Zip ties on those as well?

The spin-on filter adapter and oil filter mount only has O-rings, again, just do a snug fit there?

On another note, where can I find the long plastic pieces that fit the engine and bright lite bulbs for the gauges in the dash?

Thanks in advance.

velodromeracer, you can buy thread gages in plastic or metal to judge the type treads you have ,as i have not installed an oil cooler i dont know how the hoses are run.

Well Vello, I don't know where you plan to run the hoses. However, the front bumper bracket mounting tubes have the same thread 3/8" NF all the way through. Consequently, it appears that you will be required to run the hoses in front of the radiator if that is the only clamping point available to you. Yes just snug the "O" rings up tight.--Fwiw---Keoke-?

Hi Velo,
I installed my cooler (not Denis') below and in front of the radiator. I made a pair of aluminum brackets that bolted to those threaded holes you are referring to with no problem. One thing I did, and would recommend to others is make a shielding plate underneath the cooler to keep road debris from cutting holes in the cooler. Here is a basic diagram of the bracket. I routed the short oil hose around the radiator and the long one under.

Greg,

Looks great.
Thanks, for the advice. Did you secure the hoses with anything?

Hi Velo,
I cut the hoses to fit so there isn’t much slack. I did make a simple bracket out of aluminum sheet that wrapped around the two hoses and was screwed to the diagonal scuttle brace. Near the 4-way brake fitting.

That looks like a very nice set up... but it also looks like it butts up against the front chassis cross member... if so wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having the oil cooler if air can't pass freely through the heat exchanger???

Hi Alan,
Since I figured James would want to steal my idea, I intentionally left out a piece of information. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif I fabricated a scoop that doubles as a debris shield, so the air has a straight shot into the cooler. The cooler is mounted several inches in front of the frame cross member, so the air can also escape.

holy cr*p that's impressive. Nice work. You must have access to a sheet metal press and cutter.

Hi Alan,
Thanks. No press, just hand tools, clamps and bar stock to do the bending. The most exotic tool I used was a bead roller I bought from Harbor Freight to give some rigidity to the top piece.
