another fuel pump problem

Sometimes this car makes me feal really stupid!

OK, I was setting up the wiring for a redundant fuel pump and doing everything on the bench, not on the car. Band new Master fuel pump for back-up and brand new negative ground solid state SU pump as the primary. I connected the Master unit to power and ground and I heard it begin to pump. I connected the SU in the same fashion and heard nothing. The SU is connected to power at the thumb screw connection and to ground through the terminal provided on the body. So why is it not pumping???

Frustrated!

Hi Lin, Are the plugs still in the SU's line fittings? If so remove them and see if it ticks.--Keoke

lin, just check them individually first. make sure they both function individually then put them in the circut you want ie. ign. switch, back up/aux. switch.

Well lin, if it will not tick connected directly across battery power as indicated above. I think the only recourse for him is to send him back where he came from and ask for a replacement.---Keoke-?

Well, the mystery has solved itself. I held the hot connection to the battery post for about 30 seconds and viola all of a sudden she started ticking. Just to be sure, I have let it sit for a while and then gone back to try it again. It works instantly everytime! I don't know, maybe there was some air in there or something. Happy ending - no returned pump.

Thanks to Keoke and Anthony 7777.

Well Lin, I just figured if we scared that pump to deaf with the thought of being put back ina box and stored in a dark musty hole for the rest of its life and never gettin to ride on a Healey he would start ticking.---Keoke-- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif--- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Lin--

Unless your bench power source is unreliable I'd still be suspect of the pump--could be a bad internal contact, etc. that finally made but could just as easily go open again. I think it is a good candidate for a return or teardown--and why have to do that to a new pump?
