so driving down the highway in the pouring rain last night my radio decided to shut off and will not go on. i checked the fuse on the radio and the inline fuse that tweeter installed and all are good. i also checked the fuse box on the front right passenger side of the engine compartment and all fuses (4) are good. just wondering if im missing a second fuse box and where it would be on a '79 mgb. really dont wanna drive another 300 mi 2moro with the top up and no tunes. any help would be greatly appreciated. .
on a side note...put a whole 2800 mi on the b in the last 2 weeks of spring

how's the ground on the radio? are you sure you've got good power on the 'hot' lead going into the radio?

A volt meter would be handy in trouble shooting the problem here. you should have at ~least~ 12V (sometimes up to 14.4V) on the hot wire going into the radio. And an ohm meter would be able to tell ya if you have good ground on the radio.

There is a inline fuse that mg had going to a manuacturers installed radio, check the wiring going to your radio to see if Tweeter put a fuse downline of the original.

Get with the program, Doc.

Oh yeah... "digital"... I've heard of them.

Does that mean my multimeter with the swinging needle is vintage now? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Not as vintage as Doc and I, Kenny.
Seriously, there are some things that the analog meters are better for. Testing a voltage stabilizer, or adjusting a TPS are two that come to mind quickly.

I have a digital multimeter too, got it about a year ago, but I like my analog one better.

I don't like digital speedos/instruments either! Glance down, if all the li'l analog pointers are "mid-gauge" it's a no-brainer, put yer boot in it! With digital info there's a "second step" to confirm the "information." BAH! HUMBUG!

I did the same thing you did Kenny. I've had an analog tester for years and someone told me to get up to date and buy a digital unit. I think it was my son. So I did. I think I used it twice. It's in the drawer and the old analog is on the bench. Guess which one gets used the most. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif PJ

I have yet to tell my dad I found his analog gauge that's been missing for the past 6 years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif It's the best one I've got, and he ain't got an immediate need for it yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Back to the fuse....there are 2 separate fuses in the main wiring harness just under the permanent fuse block...one of them was for a dealer installed radio....so, start there.
