1985 TVR 280i

Hey guys I'm a new member and just recently picked up a 1985 TVR 280i (black on red). I bought it from a guy who had 3 other TVR 280's which he will also be selling soon. The car is in good shape except for cracked wood veneer dashboard/interior pieces, which I understand is a problem with alot of these cars. Has anybody recovered or replaced these interior pieces before? If recovered, what did you use and how? If replaced, what were they replaced with? I was thinking aluminum or carbon fiber if they are not recoverable.

Sorry for the rambling. I'm sure I'll have some more questions in the near future. Thanks

Ted

One of these days I'm gonna smack myself really hard for not buying that veneering machine I saw at a yardsale for $100 about 5 years ago.

Hi Ted, welcome to the club. Can't help you with your TVR problems but I see you're from Jersey. Wereabouts?

Hey Ted,
My wood for my 85 280i was refinished by an English guy down here in Orlando. He also made a door pull for me that matched perfectly. I couldn't believe how nice it looked when done.It cost about $350 and he has done other 280i s'.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Scott: I'm in Bergen County, NJ just outside of NYC.
Rick: That sounds interesting, I will send you an email about the specifics.

Anymore thoughts on this subject would be appreciated, thanks again.

Ted,
I hope you'll be joining the TVRCCNA? There's a few of us members lurking around here. Take care and good luck with the 280i!

Bruce,

I did plan on joining the group in the near future. I was about to order a service manual for the 280i actually!

Ted,

I too would like to welcome you although in TVR land the main players have already done so. I just had the wood redone on my 280i. I had a local woodworker make the gauge piece as mine was a kluged up homemade one. He fussed and cussed but it came out sweet! He re-veneered the center and glove box too! All for $260.00 but he said never again or at least not for awhile. He will re-veneer but is not keen on remaking the part. I consider myself lucky on that one.
