I'm wondering if this conversion is going to cause too much stress where it bolts to the body to be practical? I've heard stories where they can rip out!
There was a set in the trunk when I got the car. Any thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't want to risk it even though there may be kits out there that brace well enough to support it.

My 4A had the conversion with Monroe shocks when I bought it. It was a USA car which was advertised as a California car, like they all are, so supposedly rust free. Last registration was Denver, Colorado. Hmmm. The conversion was probably the best part of the body! It is the Moss one. https://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=112389

The brackets do take the load back to the original shock mounting points through the wheel well and the body and there have not been any problems in about 15,000 miles. I like the fact that you get the maximum amount of shock travel with them mounted at the back of the trailing arm and thus the maximum amount of wheel control. The ride is comfortable even with Richard Good's 420lb springs. The ones that are mounted concentric with the springs have much less travel and put extra load on the spring mounts on the chassis. The ones that are cantilevered off the original shock mounts seem to have a lot of leverage on them.

We have a couple of suppliers of kits for this in the UK.
At least one kit does not connect the shock to the body but to the chassis.

The condition of the roads in h UK has deteriorated a lot in recent years because the government ran out of money.
The shocks are tending to put cracks into the chassis.

So we are tending to go back to lever arms. This is helped by good ones being available again.
