I've noticed that my drivers side defroster vent is very loose and it appears as though both screws are missing. I've found that it is nearly impossible to get my hand up there to check. I think I found the left stud but I can't seem to locate right one. Has anyone had any experience getting accessing the drivers side defroster vent? I'm nearly at the point of giving up. Thank you very much for your help.

You need to learn YOGA!! The other stud is there about 3 inches away. Not easy to get to but it can be done. I think they are 5/16 thread nuts.

I have not gotton down on my back yet with my feet over the seat yet if that is what it takes. I can't imagine actually getting a socket wrench on the stud never mind my fingers.

Hi Art,

If I recall correctly, the studs are shared with the steering column mount. Follow the two bars that are on the steering support all the way to the top and you should find the studs there.

They are all right and if you have a pet monkey that has small hands you might actually be able to wrench that. Touching it is quite possible, at least you can see if it is loose. Best bet on turning it might be a speed wrench and the column supports are definitely attached.

The two studs you are tightening hold the dash in also if I remember right. It might be easier if you remove the tach and reach in through that hole. I think they are right up behind that. The vent being loose should not affect the air flow if the hose is on it. They do not work supper great anyway. If the flex hose is in place and not torn, it should be enough. What I do is remove the bottom of the driver seat and get some strong padding like an old sleeping bar and peek up in there with a good flash light. The hose will stay on by just being wedged and snugged in there.

Trying to fit the driver's side vent and would like to know if the vent goes on the 2 studs first or does the steering support bracket go on first?

The vent has holes, so it must go on the 2 studs shown pointing forward in this picture from under the scuttle. The dash board is slotted, so the dash can pull down without removing the nuts completely. So, as I remember, the dash goes against the scuttle, and the vent goes against the fastening nuts.

You can see that I removed the dash and vent whole...so getting to the nuts is doable.

I just found a photo from a 2010 post that clearly shows the order to be dash, vent and support bracket and after trying to wiggle the vent in all possible directions it seems certain that it has to be in that order.
