TR2/3/3A Further question re TR3 red ignition light.

So the red ignition light was not coming on when I turned the key and cranked for starting. I discovered the the light socket was missing the ground wire so I ran a ground wire from the red light socket to the brass wing nut on the gauge cluster for a good ground. Well the red light came on nice and bright but does not go out after the car is started but stays on? Any thoughts on why that would happen. I am running an alternator so maybe it's an internal fault in the wire in the alternator?

Depending on your set up. The charge indicator light should not be earthed, it should have power to it when ignition is on
and a wire to the Alternator, this provides a current to the alternator to help kick start it into charging, when the alternator voltage
output is equal to or greater than the voltage from the charge wire it switches the light out.

pull the plug on the alternator and ground the small wire Not the big ones. .
If the light comes on then the alternator is at fault.
