Wimpy Horn

The horn on my 56 100M seems to have lost its voice. When I press the horn button, it gives out very weak and unsteady sounds. Any thoughts?

If the Healey has lucas horns, there is an adjustment screw on the side. Lube then turn while someone pushes the button. If this doesn't work, check connections and preceeding reply.

Just to be a wise guy & stir up a little controversy, If a driver pays attention & practices defensive driving,& defensive parking, & I mean DEFENSIVE, as well befits the driver of a small & very fragile & expensive to repair car - you will rarely need to use a horn. LBC's are much like motorcycles in this respect. Better to anticipate problems & avoid them than to use the horn when it is nearly too late.

On a more serious note; the above advice is good.

It's really difficult to use defensive driving to get the attention of an attractive lady on the side of the street. I think a horn is much easier...

I doubt if the weak discordant bleep of a LBC horn is going to attract much attention. I guess thay MAYBE they would think that it is a cute noise. It certainly won't deter a stupid driver from running or backing into you.

Depends on the situation, perhaps the attractive lady is disabled on the side of the road attempting to beat her fuel pump with a dull instrument when upon hearing the tell tale note of a running Healey she at that moment perks up from behind the seat. See, no horn needed..........Anyways, my horn got wimpy the other day and while a neighbors kid was mashing the horn button, (and making Varoom sounds) I smacked the horn with the back of a screwdriver, fixed it, horn sounds great, promise...Probably should have smacked the kid also, the nerve, he was standing up on the seat....Good luck.

My BJ8's horns are loud and sweet. They let you know I'm there! Great defense. They need to be loud with all the sound proofing the big cars and suv's have these days. And don't forget the kids with the sound turned up and the windows open. Defense Defense Defense (and a little offense once and a while).

Thanks for the horn advice and tips. You're right -- I hardly use the horn -- but it's weird driving without that warning device.

I didn't know you wanted controversy. My sister-in-law would show you something other than the horn, she's been through race drivers school and can avoid lots with her new Cooper, she wants air horns really bad but hasn't come up with the money. But, me thinks she will soon, because she about broke her finger on the sunroof trying to flip off an Explorer.
