thanks for the great video...I wonder how they managed to find a brit BE with no rust? Also, the addition of the disk brakes was a good idea to go along with the existing 1275, but I would have at least painted the engine before I put it back in. They did clean it off though!

SWEET! Bookmarked.
:thankyousign:
I love how they couldn't stop complimenting
the car and then grinned like kids driving it.

Hobbits. Lordhavemercy. I suppose I'll get into a fisticuff at the ABFM if I refer to BE drivers as Hobbits?

Love that show. It's great to finally see someone wearing all the right protective gear!

Interesting . . . that in their "profit" margin they do not include labor costs! To employ a guy like that with such skills would cost about $40 an hour, even in England.

I'd bet they spent at least a week's worth of labor on that car, which would come out to something like $1,500-$2,000 in labor costs (conservative estimate).

Not a real world depiction, but good entertainment! :yesnod:

It was on again last night. The car ended up looking almost exactly like mine! Those guys are such characters. "This trim is going to knock his little cotton socks off!!!"

I thought they got a good price for it. £9,000 wasn't it, which is around $14,000 or $15,000 in dollars.

You have to remember that they aren't doing "restorations", but instead, just doing a fluff and buff along with a minimum repair job on the very worst of it. On that level it is quite a lot of fun.

Another YouTube favorite is "James May's Toy Stories" starring the Car Bore from Top Gear. Actually, anything with James May is good fun especially his wine tours with Oz Clark.

Yeah, I kept thinking... gosh if you're going to strip the car, do the body right and why not work a little on the engine. It did have a rib-case tranny, but it was a little disappointing to see them say "we've got to leave some old stuff for the next bloke to do" - like rusty old motor-mount nuts and old motor mount rubber. The disc brakes and Minilites were a nice change. I can't imagine that the paint job is a really long-term one.

Still, a fun show.

Here's the cost breakdown using today's pound to dollar exchange rate.

Car £4500.00 = $7180,17
paint £1900.00 = 3031.62
upgrade to front disc brakes £100.00 = 159.60
Interior= £425 = $678.12
Minilites and tires £622.28 = 992.90
Misc parts £90.00 = $143.00

Labor not included.

Total £7475.00 = $11927.00

Sold for £8600.00 =$13,722.10

Feel free to comment on whether the paint job they got for 45% of the purchase price of the whole car was worth it.

It would also be nice to be able to upgrade my brakes for $160.00--I am $100 sure they did not resleeve the master cylinder and it seems doubtful they replaced the slaves or shoes for that price.

The wheels were nice, probably needed new tires. Real flippers would have just buffed out the paint, which didn't look bad (although you can't really tell from a video), fixed up the interior, polished the aluminum parts and made a lot more $$$.

One the other hand that would not make a very good TV show.

Hey, Ben. I looked at your website and your Bugeye looks great. Get that thing reassembled so I can see some more pictures. Jim
