100M "Dealer" on e-bay

Healey 100

I find this car rather interesting. There is no claim by the seller that it is a "factory built 100M". Yet, it appears to have the hand marked SU's and other 100M features: especially the bonnet with proper louvers. Don't know if the body number matches the number on the bonnet. Could this car possibly be one of the early 100M's built at Warwick when the bonnets were sent back to Jensen for louvering? Don't know if the serial number is in a range that would make that a possibility, just wondering...... https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/195...9373236?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item5655f60234

The Car No. (230314) indicates a January 1956 build date, well after 100M production began (September 1955). Absent records and documentation, it's just another plain 100 with a few Le Mans Kit bits that may have been installed last week. The "Le Mans plaque" on the cold air box is a modern reproduction.

That said, $63,000 for a nice BN2 isn't a totally outrageous price, although I see several things indicating a less-than-terrific restoration. There's also a mark-up for the commission (the car is on commission), so it's doubtful anyone will jump on it.

The inappropriate use of the name "100M" three times in the item title and description also tells me that the seller is anxious for someone to conclude that it is something that it is not. Typical.

I agree with Reid. This car is a normal BN2 built January 6, 1956. It is not an early "Le Mans" Car. The Dealer knows the difference and should not be using the 100M description. Car has also been for sale for a while which I hope indicates buyers are smartening up!

I had a friend look at this a couple of months ago and it is not a "dealer installed" LeMans kit. Has some issues with the frame and was supposedly going to be sold to a buyer in Europe if he "didn't hurry up and make a decision to buy it". Yeah right ! Typical case of "caveat emptor" with this one and as Reid and Randy both said, should not be called a 100M under any circumstances.
Regards,
Mike
