Well in California, it will be considered a motorcycle. So you will need a helmet and a motorcycle license. Now if they had put two rear wheels close together, then it would have been a car.

I'm still getting used to the three wheel motorcycles (2 front 1 rear wheel) that are becoming very popular this year.

That would be a fun ride.....Here is one a buddy owns but I have yet to be able to find any information about it.....

A while back there was a kit car company that was selling kits that used a Citroen 2CV as a donor car too make a trike. Maybe that's what your friends car is. Don't recall the name off the company though.

A motorcycle mechanic friend of mine had a "Morgan" three-wheeler repop, of some sort, that used a Moto Guzzi V-twin as the power plant.

I've seen a few of those CanAm's on the freeways around here; all the disadvantages of motorcycles, without any of the advantages.....

Here's something similar here. Photographed at Buttonwillow, CA in '05.

That would be Lomax.

I think the red trike pictured above is a Lomax with a custom front end - the Lomax body was kinda fugly.

Probably a JZR, maybe a TriKing. Very sweet machines, very similar to the new Morgan trike. They are the best of the Morgan trike replicas, they show up on ebay a couple times a year. There is an active club called the JZR pilots association.... their motto is "point and squirt". They also used Honda CX500 motors, but they didn't look or sound as cool.

Not a Triumph but I want one anyway. Saw this article on Speed.com. Morgan announced plans to make a new 3-wheeler using a Harley Davidson engine. No word on pricing though looks cool. I'd love to get one of those. Here's a pic from the Morgan site.

There is already a thread in the "other british" area.

Price is to be determined, but there have been a lot of confusing rumours.

If I understand correctly, it will be made by Ace Cycle cars in Seattle under license from MMC.

The question I have is, will they sell, and will the 20-something age bracket be interested?

Kevin,

The only three trikes that I've seen, all have a passenger. That may be why the driver has one, if you know what I mean.

These look like they would be fun to own, but I can't imagine getting into a car any narrower than my TR6.

Interesting Canadian Flag badge on the side....wonder what the significance of that is?

Cheers,

Here's Jay Leno's video of his Morgan Three-Wheeler.

The only one I ever saw up close and personal was at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome.

Cool video, I like that Jay seems to like all types of cars. He seems to have the same kind of enthusiasm for the smallest obscure cars up to the most exotic expensive cars.

I'm not sure if the ACE Cycle car is the same as the trike on the Morgan site. I think the the ACE Cycle car is a limited production version. The last paragraph on this article sounds like they only plan an initial run of six cars with more cars if there is interest.

https://cycle-car.com/pi-article.htm

Although the specs for the ACE do sound exactly like the trike that is described on the Morgan site. The Ace sounds really cool also. Maybe the ACE project inspired Morgan to start production of their own model?

Again, lots of confusion - but my understanding is that Ace will be building these "for Morgan". I think it actually works out that Ace is building the trikes in Seattle, under Morgan license, and Morgan gets a royalty..... I'm not even sure if they will be distributed through the dealer network...?

The Ace cars seem like an updated version of the JZR kit. The spirit is there, minus the original mechanical and structural barbarism.

I could be very wrong on all counts.

I shudder to ask, but I wonder what the reaction would be to an electric version? (no gas engine)

I got into Morgans when I was working on an electric car in college. The 2-wheel-in-front trike seemed like a much more efficient, lightweight platform for an EV. I should have built "my car" 15 years ago.... <sigh>

Go ahead, tell me I'm nuts.

That is very cool. My idea of a 'smart car'....with an Evo HD in it it would really move well.
