Water temp sensor placement [secondary]

I need to run a second water temp sensor on my car (one for the EFI and one for the gauge) and was wondering about placement. I'm sure somebody here probably has a really great suggestion that hasn't occured to me yet. The most obvious is an adapter in the upper radiator hose, but I'm also wondering if or how well it would work to put one in at the block drain plug (driver side rear of block). Hmmm, don't know. Any suggestions?

It needs to be in the head where the water circulates while the thermostat is closed.
I'd put it in the stock location and move your gauge unit to a secondary spot.

Yeah, just to clarify, I have the EFI hooked up to the stock location in the head and I'm looking for a place to put the sensor for the gauge.

I suggest you try several spots and report back on the best location. Then I'll know where to put mine.

How about in the radiator port, not as accurate as in the block but it works.

Mine is between the heater bypass and the manifold mounted in a tee fitting. Is it as accurate as another location? No. Does it need to be? No. The only function it serves in the MS setup is to set your warm up enrichment and cold spark advance. Your warm up enrichment cuts out at 160. The adjustment to the warmup enrichment (which is done after the first 10 minutes you drive the car on a very cold day ) is very seat of the pants. As long as your temperature sensor is close, it will get the job done.

I know teeing in the heater bypass would be easy and probably accurate enough. I just need a gauge so that I know if I'm overheating when I'm driving. Right now the only way I have to check the temp while the engine is running is on the laptop. I tried hooking the EFI and the Autometer up to the same sensor but they didn't want to play nice together. I guess I'm really thinking hard about trying it in the block drain. I'll just have to get a sensor that will fit there and go for it. What's the worst that could happen? I don't know when I'll get around to it but I'll report back when I do.

Put the MS sensor in the bypass and the Autometer sensor in the stock location. Don't over think. Save your brain for the bigger jobs you have yet to do.
