Another water temp line question

Hi to all,
I am taking the temp/oil gauge out as part of replacing the dash and have run into a problem. In preparation to loosing the nut at the head, I soaked the nut with PB Blaster and cut a slot in a spark plug socket to let the line go into the socket and then slide the socket up on the nut. All that went well and I was able to start loosening the nut. The nut turned about six flats and then has started binding the line. When turning the nut, at this point, the line has started trying to turn also. I am afraid to put very much pressure on the nut and force the line to twist which might break it. Is there a way to free the line from the nut so I can continue to remove the assembly?
Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie, just make SURE that guage is free to turn in the dash. Then just do ONE full rotation of the nut whilst turning the capillary tube. Kind of a PITA but will work.

After it is out and with either vice jaw covers or a double folded shop rag put in the vice and GENTLY clamp the adaptor (end) nut with tube in the air. On and off FOAM your penatrating aersol into the top "slot". Gonna have to do for a day or two. Then with rag around the "bulb" try to rotate it with plyers GENTLY!! Did I say GENTLY?!?

Most importently is TAKE your TIME!! Do NOT hurry!! :hammer:

Hi Charlie,

Once you get it apart, I would certainly suggest slathering no-seize around the end before putting it back together. That is two different metals in close contact if I remember correctly and you live close to the salt air.

Ed and Ed, Thanks for the great advice. I guess that just proves that two "Eds" are better than one. Sorry, I could not resist that one. I'll get the guage loose tomorrow and do the rotation as I loosen the nut.
