Voltage regulator

Generator is putting out about 14+ volts at about 900-1000 rpm connecting D and F together to volt meter+ and other to ground. Ignition light is staying. Check voltage at battery and nothing but the 12.25 volt tat was reading before I started car. Check terminals A and F together read 12.25 volts. Took cover off the regulator and noticed that the points to the right had side of car are completely closed and the points on the other side are gaped about .0045. Running car does not change these. Where do I go from here?

Initially i would try cleaning those points first

"A" terminal goes to the starter solenoid and supplies power to the battery. If the battery is at 12.25, "A" should be slightly higher than 12.25 if it's working properly.
"D" is the generator (AKA Dynamo) output.
"F" is the regulated power to the generator field. With F & D connected, I would expect 14+ volts.
"A1" supplies power to the car via the light switch, and
"E" is ground (AKA Earth).

With D & F separated, what do you get at F and D, compared with ground?

John, will do checks tomorrow in light. Should the wires be hooked to regulator or separated? I assume all tests with engine running?

Has anyone switched to one of the new solid state regulators? If so what one do you recommend? just exploring options until I can check for replacement if needed.

Here are readings I just got: battery 12.25 A1 12.20 A 12.21 F 0.85 and D 0.85 generator hooking both field and main together with jumper wire and then to voltmeter and ground at about 1000+RPMS 15+volts
I would think that voltage regulator has a problem?

I have one of the new Moss regulators in my BJ8. It works fine, but the construction and components look flimsy compared to the original. Keep your original, you'll probably want to swap covers since the new ones don't look anything like the originals.

I usually keep all old parts in case I can use some of the components for originality look. Have a couple of the old clamps from Sprite steering boots. Never will use but they are still here.
