TR2/3/3A TR3 Add-On Brake Servo

I am considering adding one of the add-on brake servos that are offered as part of my brake overhaul this winter. I was wondering if any members here have any experience with this unit and any recommendations. Also, since this unit is powered by vacuum, I assume I need to add (Machine) a port to the intake manifold?

Never thought of adding one but you would need to access the manifold somewhere, I see them on ebay regularly so you could keep one stock.
I find my pedal pressure to be relatively light for no assist, are your brakes in proper working order?

Well, I am going to re-do the entire system this winter. (I have had the car for about 6 months and am not sure of its history).

I wouldn't bother adding the servo. I have the stock brakes and I don't think the pedal takes much pressure at all the way it is. Without any boost I think you get a better feel for what the brakes are doing too.

Hi,

I have to ask why you want to add a servo? A lot of folks are under the impression a servo will improve brake effectiveness, which it won't. All a servo does is make pedal pressure less to achieve the same level of braking, because the servo acts to multiply the pressure that's being applied. In other words, the car won't stop any better or faster, it will just require somewhat lighter pressure on the pedal for the same results.

If your goal is improving the brakes, there are lots of modifications and tweaks that can be done. Picking and choosing among those depends upon what you are trying to accomplish, how you plan to use the car and how fat your wallet is.

I'll echo Alan's comments! Although pad choice is somewhat limited for the TR3 calipers, sometimes a change in pad material alone can make a bit of difference in effort and possibly in overall effectiveness.

Of course, being old enough to have grown up mostly with cars NOT having any power assist, maybe my legs are just in better shape! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In addition to pads, maybe the dual circuit brake conversion from Revington TR would be a thought? You have the option to add a dual servo to that kit.
