I pulled the bonnet on the Spit tonight getting ready to pull the engine and trans out. I then pulled the seats. No rust through under the seats. Plenty of surface rust/dust but nothing through.
I then was re-reading some of the
Spitfire and GT6 magazine information I had printed and decided to verify the new engine block number. I only really paid enough attention to ensure it was a Triumph block and not an MG.
The number was FM5973UE and if I read the data sheets correctly this indicates that it is a 1976 block and not a 1973 as the reciept indicated. The way the data sheet reads this is also a 9:1 compression engine.
Am I interpreting this all correctly?
If so, guess that's not all bad!
