I decided to take off the heater hoses,to replace them,
& broke the metal piece that the hose goes over,on the heater core.
What's the best/easiest way to pull the heater box?

Pop the clip's off the box and the core comes right out.....least that's the way it is on the early cars. I imagine its just as easy.

WRONG!!! - I removed the screws from the front of the heater box, pulled ALL of the clips on the heater box,and .......... NOTHING. I even removed the battery.I still have to find a way to remove therusty/battery stained (2) screws that hold the rear heater base in place. - Doug

What year are you disassembling?? BE through the 60's at least required removing the clip's and the core came out the front of the box.

It's an early (11/73) '74 - 1275. Looks like I'll need to pull the hood off,to get the screws out without messing them up. - Doug

Ithink the original screws may have a posi drive head. If so, using the right tool greatly increases your odds of success.

Had our Granddaughter hold the hood up,to remove the battery.Got the battery out,but had to remove the hood to figure out how to removethe screws from the base of the heater box. John,a Master Mechanic, came over,& helped me figure out how to remove the screws, without resorting to destroying them. Pulled the heater box out (By the way, only the back part comes offeasily - 2/3rd - 1third).Now I need to paint/re-install. "Reassembling is the reverse of disassembly"........... - Doug

Wow, yes, Trevor! So many folk's are unaware of the need for pozi-drive screw drivers. Impact driver can come in mighty handy too on occasion.

Kurt.
