Front Hub oil seal question

I am just redoing the front bearings on my GT6, and I can't figure out how to get the new oil seals back on the hubs.
I took pictures of them when I took them off, and the felt seal was facing the bearings...but I can't see how this can be right? I suspect they were installed wrong, and that's why the bearings are shot.
I think it needs to go on with the felt facing towards the vertical link, can anyone comfirm this for me....I simply can't tell from any of the manuals or the CDROM. Both pictures suck!!
Also, do I press the oil seal holder into the hub? I have already screwed up on oil seal trying to figure this out and don't want to mess up another one.

You're correct. felt seal faces away from the bearing after being soaked in oil. The new felt seals may be a little too thick and need to be trimmed in 1/2 with a raxor blade in order to get correct bearing setting. PeterK

Thanks for getting back to me...do you know if I need to press the metal ring that holds the felt seal into the hub?
Or does it just fit up against it?

Don't really remember but I think mine just fits in the recess without need for a press.

Assuming it to be same as the Spitfire, it needs to be tapped in until the edge of the cap is flush with the hub.

On my tr6 it needed to be tapped in. Also, I found that after driving for a while the hub started to get a little loose as the felt seal compressed and wore in. I would reccommend driving it for a little while and then re-torque.

Very good advice! I totally forgot the retorque. Mine only sat overnite and after driving only 10 miles the steering was squeamish....needed retorque big time!
