DON'T use 'em for REassembling!!!

They're GREAT for takin' stuff apart... but brutal for anything you want to trust to stay together.

I have two of them, they are both 3/4 drive and very powerful, I will say if you use them to remove lug nuts {or any other bolts/nuts for that matter} you best be very sure which direction {On or off} you are going.. The ones I have will definitely twist lug studs right off NO problem {ask my son}! I have used them for re assembly but I am very careful not to over tighten anything with them.
Rusted on bolts or nuts have only two choices with these impacts on them, they either submit or get twisted off!
Why do I have two you might ask, lets just say I got a deal I couldn`t pass up on three of them one of which I gave to my very best friend.
One I use and one I keep as a spare because I know it can not be replaced with the same quality tool.

Would the same thing be a caution with ones used with a compressor?
Depends entirely on how powerful they are, how high you have the knob turned, and how quickly you react when you discover it's turning the wrong way.

One of my 1/2" drive air impact wrenches can't even twist off a rusty old TR wheel stud no matter how long you let it pound (I've tried). The other, higher powered one can, but has to beat on it for awhile (long to realize something is wrong). The 1" drive wouldn't even think about it (if I were foolish enough to use it on such a small fastener). There's also a 3/4" drive that I've never even tried ... someone gave me the 1" before the occasion arose (and the motorhome is gone now anyway).

But I don't use them all that much on rusty fasteners, because there is a third choice : tearing up the bolt head or nut until nothing will grab it.

I have 2...
The Chicago power tools one is not available anymore.

Just bought this one.

A must have item at the track.
And yes...I like it very much.

Always use a torque wrench after you use it.
They are very inconsistent so far as torque goes.
A fresh battery will give 100 ft/lbs and a dead one will give 0

Saw a similar 1/2" 24 volt impact at Sam's Club last week for $50.00. Guess I should have bought one.

Jegs has a similar thing...Appears rebranded?
One battery and a less expensive charger, but the gun is the same.
And less $

No one supports my Chicago anymore.

Since the new one is a Longacre...I think the company will back it for a long time.
Racers complain bitterly when something breaks or replacement parts become unavailable.
Longacre no doubt knows this.

I don't know whether you're refering to the battery powered impact guns, or the corded 110VAC ones. I have a DeWalt DW290 electric impact wrench that I've been using for over twenty years. I use it when I just have a small job where I don't want to fire up the compressor.

It has almost as much guts as my 1/2" pnuematic impact wrench @ 120psi. It's easy and convenient, and that is the sole attribute that I like. It's a nice addition to the tool pile.

I picked up a 1/2 drive electric impact at one of the HF sales. I think I paid about $30 for it, and like Doc says, it is great for removal, but not so much for assembly.

I don't have air in the garage, so electric is the option that I currently have. I got the two year warranty with the unit, so if it goes squish replacement is a no brainer.

I picked up one of HFs angle grinder about a year ago for under $20, and it blew up while reshaping some metal I had laying around. I brought it in to them with the paperwork, and they handed me a new one. No questions asked. Kind of like how Craftsman is or used to be anyway.
